This Matcha Lemonade is a total copycat of the Starbucks menu item! With just 3 ingredients, you'll have a perfectly refreshing afternoon wake up drink!
Matcha is a popular type of green tea. Instead of steeping the tea into water with teabags, matcha is made from ground green tea leaves. This produces a vibrant green color, and it adds a ton of nutrients and antioxidants!
On its own, matcha can be on the bitter side. But when mixed with some lemon and a bit of sugar, it is delicious! Save some money by making this matcha lemonade Starbucks copycat at home! Try these with my Vegan Matcha Sugar Cookies!
Why you'll love this recipe
- Only 3 Ingredients - This recipe couldn't be easier with just lemon, matcha, and sugar mixed into water!

- Caffeinated - Matcha contains around 70 mg of caffeine per teaspoon. This is just enough to pick you up without giving you the jitters!
What you need for this recipe
- Matcha Tea Powder - Investing in a high quality matcha powder will make a big difference in flavor!
- Sugar or Stevia - Or any sugar alternative of your choice.
- Lemon Juice - I highly recommend using fresh squeezed if possible! Pre-juiced will work as well.
How to make this recipe
Step 1: Sift the Matcha & Sugar
Over a small bowl or measuring cup, use a sifter to add ½ teaspoon of matcha powder to the bowl.
Be sure to sift the matcha through to avoid excessive clumps in your lemonade.
Into the same bowl, but not through the sifter, add 2 teaspoon of sugar or a sugar alternative.
Step 2: Make the Tea
In a glass measuring cup, heat up ¼ cup of water, or use already warm water. Water should be warm, not boiling.
Have a matcha whisk, regular whisk, or a fork ready, and slowly pour the warmed water into the bowl with matcha and sugar, whisking vigorously to prevent any clumping.
Step 3: Create the Matcha Lemonade
Fill your glass of choice with ice cubes and add ⅓ cup of lemon juice.
Pour the matcha over the lemon juice and stir. Taste and add more sugar if needed!
Expert Tips
- Please note that this addition will be the only source of sweetness in this drink. If you prefer a sweeter lemonade, I recommend adding 3-4 teaspoon total of sugar. This recipe as is will produce a pretty tart lemonade.
- If you want to skip the lemon juice and sugar entirely, you can absolutely use pre-made lemonade!
- As mentioned prior, any sugar or sugar alternative will work here! Honey, agave, and maple syrup should also suffice with the same measurements.
