Pornstar Martini with Gin

If you love passionfruit and you love gin, you'll really love this Pornstar Martini with Gin! The classic recipe uses vanilla vodka, but I think it is so much better using gin! Tart, a little sweet, and fruity, this cocktail is a hit for everyone!

I used to work at a cocktail bar that refused to serve vodka, which prompted my strong hatred of the spirit in cocktails. I almost always prefer gin in my drinks, as it has far more flavor, so the drinks don't need as much sugar to cover up the alcohol flavor!

This rendition of the classic pornstar martini, features passionfruit and vanilla. Instead of using the vanilla vodka, we use a good quality gin and a Homemade Vanilla Bean Syrup (that is SOOO good in any drink!!!).

The end result of a pornstar martini with gin comes out perfectly balanced, tart, a little sweet, and a beautiful pink hue!

📖 Recipe Origins

So, with a name like Pornstar Martini, there's got to be a good story behind it, right? Well, it actually it isn't that exciting of a story. According to Conde Nast Traveller, the cocktail was created by Douglas Ankrah in London while he was formulating drinks for a menu at The Townhouse Bar in Kingsbridge.

The cocktail was allegedly inspired by a drink Ankrah had at a gentleman's lounge called "Maverick's." The drink was initially called the Maverick Martini, but he later changed it to the Pornstar Martini. He claims to have titled it that because he felt like this was something a pornstar would drink.

Traditionally, it is just vanilla, vodka, passionfruit liqueur and puree, served with a side or "shot" of champagne. I've mentioned my reasons for using gin in this recipe, but I actually think gin is a great fit, since most gin comes from London!

• This drink is remarkably balanced. Passionfruit is a rather tart and sour tropical fruit and it is mellowed out by the vanilla simple syrup so perfectly.
• The pornstar martini with gin goes down so easily. It isn't a "true" martini, which would normally be a pretty strong, clear cocktail, but it is sure to be delicious!
• It's pink!! I mean, come on. You think my blog is titled Legally Healthy Blonde and I'm not going to drink a pink cocktail whenever I can??

🥘 What you need for this recipe

Ingredients and Substitutions

• Gin - Use whatever gin you like the best. For this recipe, I found that Roku gin works really well. Roku is a Japanese gin that is much more floral and slightly citrus-y.
• Vanilla Syrup - I highly recommend making your own vanilla bean simple syrup, but store bought is fine too!
• Passionfruit Liqueur - Passoa is the brand I recommend. Note that this is different from Chinola, which is also a passionfruit liqueur, but it will have a VERY different flavor and outcome. Use Passoa.
• Lime juice - I highly encourage juicing your own lime juice, as the flavor is the best this way.
• Passionfruit Juice - Store bought passionfruit juice.
• Champagne - Or any sparkling wine, served on the side.

• Cocktail Shaker w/ Strainer
• Citrus Juicer

📋 How to make a Pornstar Martini with Gin

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

Begin by slicing and juicing the limes.

Measure out the remaining ingredients needed.

If necessary, make the vanilla bean syrup ahead of time.

Step 2: Make the Cocktail

Add a scoop of ice to the cocktail shaker.

Add the gin, passionfruit liqueur, passionfruit juice, simple syrup, and lime juice.

Close the lid tightly and shake for at least 30 seconds.

Step 3: Finishing Touches

Strain the cocktail into (preferably) chilled martini glasses.

In a small shot glass or other glass, pour an accompanying shot of sparkling wine for each cocktail.

Optionally, garnish with ½ a passionfruit or a lime wedge.

Serve cold and enjoy!

💭 Expert Tips & Tricks

• For the passionfruit liqueur, Passoa is the brand I recommend. Note that this is different from Chinola, which is also a passionfruit liqueur, but it will have a VERY different flavor and outcome. Use Passoa.
• Buy pre-made vanilla or vanilla bean simple syrup OR make your own Homemade Vanilla Bean Syrup. It's easy and delicious to make at home.
